Under the direction of the Director Diagnostic and Ancillary Services, the Supervisor Emergency Medical Services (EMS) assumes shift responsibility in managing the human and material resources of the Emergency Medical Services department in order to provide quality patient care and an environment conducive to staff growth and professional performance. As a member of the leadership team the Supervisor Emergency Medical Services has the responsibility to provide and coordinate patient care for the designated shift of duty and assists the Director Diagnostic and Ancillary Services with administrative responsibilities such as budget preparation, strategic workforce planning, and personnel decisions. This individual remains clinically competent in area of practice. Interprets and enforces policies and procedures, standards of care and standards of practice with others and demonstrates same through own actions.
Education:
1) Completion of an accredited program for Paramedic training; or completion of an accredited nursing program if the applicant is an Emergency Medical Services Registered Nurse (PHRN).
2) Bachelor’s preferred.
Experience:
1) 3+ years (post graduate) field experience as a Paramedic in an actively operating ALS program.
2) 3+ years of leadership (including duty chief) experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
1) Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
2) Demonstrated ability to work under stressful situations.
3) Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
4) Effectively functions as a liaison among staff, physicians, medical center administration, and ancillary departments.
5) Uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a professional attitude constantly.
6) Consistently demonstrates maturity for accountability of job performance.
7) Conducts business in a professional and cordial manner that upholds the integrity and reputation of Mount Nittany Medical Center.
8) Knowledge of human resource laws and regulations as they relate to the management of staff.
License/Certification/Registration:
1) Current, license by the Pennsylvania Department of Health as an EMT-Paramedic or Health Professional with a current EMSVO Endorsement.
2) Completion of the Hazardous Material Operations Level. Must obtain within one year after hire and renew annually.
3) Current driver’s license.
4) Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews every two years.
5) After four months from hire/transfer, meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and renews every two years.
6) After six months from hire/transfer, meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and renews every two years.
7) Paramedic Board Certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) preferred.
8) Emergency Medical Services Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) and/or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification preferred.
9) Within three months from the hire/transfer date, completes Crisis Prevention Institute’s Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI NCI) training and renews every 2 years thereafter.
