Overview

Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the application of non-ionizing high frequency ultrasonic waves to humans for a diagnosis of disease. Also performs clerical duties that may be related to the procedure.

Qualifications

Education:

 

1) High School graduate or equivalent.
2) Graduate of an approved school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography or equivalent experience accepted by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

 

1) Demonstrates the ability to work with patients and their families who are often under physical and/or emotional stress.

2) Demonstrates ability to work cooperatively with coworkers, supervisors, other departments, and providers.

 

License/Certification/Registration:

 

1) Registered in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (RDMS) within two years after graduation from an approved school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

2) Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT, RVS, RT (VS)) within two years after graduation from an approved school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

3) Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.
