Overview

Provide direct care to patients as directed by the provider, including patient education, prevention and rehabilitation of injuries, casting and bracing, and various clinic support tasks. Support tasks include placing patients in exam rooms and preparing them for provider visit, assuring efficient patient flow and assisting providers as needed. The Clinical Trainer will actively participate as a member of the healthcare team to engage patients, families, and caregivers in the coordination of patient care. Work is primarily performed in the clinic setting with some various settings including secondary schools, and community centers.

Qualifications

Education

 

1) Position can be filled by an athletic trainer, physical therapist, physical therapy assistant, or personal trainer:

      a) If Athletic Trainer, incumbent must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited professional athletic training education program.

      b) If Physical Therapist or Physical Therapy Assistant, incumbent must be a graduate of an approved accredited program for Physical Therapists or Physical Therapy Assistants.

      c) If Personal Trainer, incumbent must be a high school or equivalent graduate. Preference is given to incumbents with an associate’s degree or higher in recreation and fitness or healthcare related studies.

 

Experience

 

1) Two years of athletic training, personal training, or physical therapy preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

 

1) Knowledge of clinical training principles and skills needed to provide quality patient care and treatment.

2) Knowledge of normal anatomy and medical terminology.

3) Knowledge of physiological demand and response to exercise.

4) Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and read, understand and follow written and verbal instructions of the provider.

5) Must be able to react calmly and effectively during emergency situations.

6) Must have the ability to identify and analyze problems, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little to no supervision.

7) Knowledge of basic office and clinical operations.


License/Certification/Registration

 

1) If athletic trainer, certification as an Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification (BOC) is required and must be licensed or in the process of obtaining licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

2) If physical therapist, must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Pennsylvania.

          a) Possession of or eligible for a PA Direct Access License preferred.

3) If physical therapy assistant, must possess current licensure to practice in Pennsylvania and must possess or eligible for Physical Therapy Assistant – Indirect Supervision License.

4) If personal trainer, must possess reputable personal training certification.

5) Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.

6) Valid Driver’s license.
